Favorite Friday: Annular Eclipse 2012

The past few weeks I feel like I haven’t been able to see any real cool planet, Sun, or Moon events that have been happening in the night sky.  I was really disappointed to miss the Super Moon a few weeks ago because of a really cloudy night, and it seems like the clouds have not lifted since then.  A few days ago, I also missed the last night to see Venus and the Moon close together because, once again, of a cloudy night.  Venus is now en route to pass in front of the Sun in the beginning of June.  Hopefully I will get to see that.

I also missed the annular eclipse that took place May 21, 2012 but not because of the clouds.  This time I just live in the wrong area to be able to see it.  And seeing all the cool photos of it makes me jealous that I don’t have my own to show off as well.  I have a friend who lives in AZ and her photos look so cool.  I want my own!  I guess another thing to add to my “Photography Wish List”.

The Big Picture – Boston.com posted a gallery of the eclipse on May 21, 2012.  The series is titled Ring of Fire Eclipse: 2012 and features photos from where the eclipse could be seen.  Anyone living in the western part of the US, from TX to OR, were able to see it, and then it went across the northern Pacific Ocean to Tokyo, Japan.  And the photos are amazing.

One of my favorites in the gallery is a set of photos showing the phases.  I probably like this one the best because I am trying to put together my own Phases of the Moon set (which is a lot harder than I thought it would be).

I love the next 2 because of the cloudy skies.  The clouds make the photos look so creepy.  And the eclipse is so clear and sharp in the first photo that it almost looks fake.  The second photo comes from right here in the US.  I love the windmill along with the clouds.  These are the pictures that make me jealous and wish that I were able to take my own eclipse photos.

The last photo I picked out to share really does show the eclipse name of “Ring of Fire”.  Just really cool looking and amazing.

To see the gallery in its entirety, please go here.  There’s a partial lunar eclipse coming up on June 4 and I think I should be able to see it.  Maybe the skies will be clear and I’ll be lucky enough to get a few pictures.  I can hope anyway.
