Project 365 2.0: April 27, 2012 | Day 149

One of my many fascinations include airplanes and flying. I don't know why I like planes so much but I do. I took flying lessons a few years ago and fell in love with it. I wanted to get my pilot's license by the time I hit 30 years old, but that didn't work. Mainly because of the money and once I got my license, what would I do with it? I can't park a plane out in the driveway. It just seemed very expensive for something not very logical. At this point though, I would settle for taking more lessons right now. I have even considered going to school to be an air traffic controller. My friends always thought it was weird I like to fly because I am terrified of heights. Seriously, I can't stand on a chair without getting wobbly knees, sweaty palms, and having thoughts of falling off and breaking my neck. And for some reason, my fear of heights does not extend into being thousands of feet off the ground. Lately though, my love of planes has been reignited. It must have to do with the fact that I recently got into star, planet, and moon watching which causes me to look at the skies constantly. Today the Enterprise flew on top of a modified 747 from Washington, DC to NYC. I watched it on TV and wished that I had gotten up early and drove down to Sandy Hook. I think I would have been able to see it from there, but I'm not sure. As it flew into JFK airport, I wasn't thinking about the pilot (though it must've been really cool to fly that plane) but the traffic controllers. Imagining talking to the Enterprise, giving it directions, and telling it when it's okay to land? Now that would be really cool.
