Drawing With Lights

Project 365 2.0: April 16, 2012 | Day 138

I don't know how I managed to see the Lyrids meteor shower. I didn't even know it was coming, let alone looking for it. I just happened to be in a parking lot and saw an orange streak in the sky. I thought, "That looks like a meteor. No it can't be. It's probably just one of those jet things. I've never seen a meteor so how would I know?" I went for my camera anyway but it had already passed. Oh well. Then I saw another right in the same area. And another. And then 3 at the same time! Then they were going in different directions! The entire time I watched I took pictures, trying not to get my hopes up that I was actually watching a meteor shower. I got home and looked it up and yes, it was the Lyrids. The Earth passes through them every mid-April. It was unbelievable to watch my first meteor shower and actually get some good pictures from it.

What I like best is that you actually saw them during twilight and not during night time. I’ve only ever seen them when the sky was black and their trails were white. This was a great catch. I’m glad you got your camera out in time to take their pictures.
